End with Inspiration

Welcome to the last week of my how to tell your story series!

Before we end any story, we want to end with inspiration. It’s the part that says, “God isn’t just at real and at work in my life. He is real and can be at work in your life too!”

As a review, here are the 4 parts of telling your story to reveal His story:

  1. Tell your story.
  2. Connect your story.
  3. Make Jesus the hero.
  4. End with Inspiration

You can go back to read the previous posts if you missed any, but I wanted to give you a visual too. Watch the video below for an example. (If you’re a subscriber, click here to go to the blog and watch.)

Ok. Let’s be real. That wasn’t perfect.  I watched back and was horrified by my ending, so I cut it out of the video. 🙂 Ha! You can’t do that in real life, so that’s why some forethought and practice helps. I saw some other things too:

  • Why would I ever claim I could tell the story in three minutes?! You knew I couldn’t do it, didn’t you?
  • The first time, I said I walked through the cancer journey with my friend for 6 years. The 3 year time frame was right.
  • (I hope you’re not giggling at my bad acting!)

We don’t want it to be rehearsed, but we want to be ready. The more ready you are, the more relaxed you’ll be when God opens the door. I decided to let you see this video, flaws and all, to see you don’t have to be perfect to share. You just have to be willing!

Here’s a practical tool for writing out your story. It may be something that helps you to think through the parts. You can print it out and work on it later.

Also, if you want to read more about sharing Jesus in your everyday life, I highly recommend Out of the Salt Shaker & Into the World by Rebecca Manly Pippert. Awesome, awesome book! Because I’m a voracious reader, I don’t often reread books, but I’ve reread this one several times.

I hope this has been helpful! Do you have any questions? I don’t have all the answers, but I’ll answer if I can.

I’ll have to tell you that the pastor’s wife giveaway last week was the most fun one I’ve ever done. It was a blessing to me to hear you brag on your pastor’s wives. Not only was it a blessing to me, but more importantly, I know some pastor’s wives who read your comments and walked away so built up!

I’m going to announce the winner below, but I want to encourage you. Even if your name isn’t the winner’s name, would you do something to bless your pastor’s wife? Just printing your comment and giving it to her would probably be a sweet surprise.

And the winner is… Dawn Collins. Congratulations, Dawn! I’ve emailed Dawn for her address.
