A Prayer for Peace in Christmas Chaos
I used to really, really hate sharing the story that I shared in today’s devotion. I don’t like for you to know that I lose it. Or that I occasionally have a potty mouth. Or that I’m not the perfect Christian woman. I want to be her. Truly.
But God is teaching me to choose His perfecting work in me over my own attempts at perfection. In fact, I’ve learned that…
My perfectionism only gets in God’s way.
Not only that, but my perfectionism absolutely wrecks my relationships. It warps my perspective. It makes peace vanish. So here’s a little prayer for peace that comes directly from the heart of a girl who has to wrestle perfectionism to the ground every Christmas.

Now… I want us to have a little FUN together! Are you up for that?
To keep myself intentional and focused this Christmas instead of scattered and bat-crazy, I’m giving myself a daily photo assignment, and I’d love for you to join me.
Each day I’m going to take a picture of choosing relationship over perfectionism and tag it #breakingupwithperfect along with any other cuteness that pops in my head. Click here to see an example.
If you add pictures with the #breakingupwithperfect on Instagram, Twitter, or Twitter during the month of December, you’ll be part of the party AND each picture (you can enter once or 10 times a day) will enter you for The Great New Year’s Giveaway. Here’s what it will include. Christmas after Christmas for you!!!
- A signed copy of Breaking Up with Perfect
- A pocket sized Bible
- An angel mug
- Fun note cards for friends
- The last limited-edition bracelet that says, “I’m breaking up with perfect.”

Great thoughts, Amy. I had similar convictions about Christmas in my most recent post. I really used to think Christmas was a mistake, but I realized it’s actually the opposite. It’s not about escaping from the chaos; it’s about realizing God entered our chaos to give us His perfect peace.
Anyway, thanks for this post. Your thoughts and prayer resonated with me.

I don’t do Twitter or Instagram, but would love to win the New Year’s package! I am already exhausted and it’s only December 8! Love your devotions, Amy! God Bless!
Loved it! Thank you for sharing.
Perfect!
Sister, I believe you and I might really be sisters! I suffer with all of the same issues – trying so hard to make everything perfect, that I just wind up ruining my day and someone else’s. Thanks for the prayer, and I’ll shoot one up for you today! God bless, and Merry Christmas!
