I am thankful for praying parents. I have been sick for most of the week and my parents prayed for me last night. I woke up a new person today! I feared that I would not be able to enjoy the holiday with my family, but thanks for to the prayers of my parents, WE proved the enemy wrong! So, the moral of this story is…no matter whether you are 4 or 41, the prayers of your mom and dad are most valuable! Happy Thanksgiving!

I am so thankful for an awesome God. He has blessed my life with a husband, children, parents, grandchildren, brothers, a niece and nephews, God has brought me to many trials but he has also brought me through them. He is always present and working in my life.

  11. Without God opening our eyes and heart to see His wonder, His grace, His provision we would be blind to even the Giving of Thanks. So I am so very thankful for a Father who gives us faith – for even this is not of our own – and who lavishes love on us and takes such joy in our feeble offerings of thanks. I am blessed and rich beyond measure that no man can calculate but that overflows from my Father’s heart.

  16. I’m thankful God promises to never leave us! And, thankful for an unexpected opportunity to be with family this Christmas, especially since we live overseas.

  24. Oh I am so thankful for my kids, God has truly changed my whole world and life through them. They have been the place I have found real love and true happiness. They give me such meaning and purpose and bless me daily. I could not be more proud of them and the sweet people they are growing into and I love to watch their love of God grow and be nurtured.

  25. So thankful for my family and the Lord’s constant presence in our lives! Even in the midst of tough times, He is always there waiting to wrap us in His loving arms. so grateful for the peace of God that we have because of Jesus’ amazing gift for us!

  26. For my parents, who are 86 and 87 years old. I love them so much!

  27. This has been a tough year for our family. My mother-in-law had a massive stroke in August and my father-in-law has Alzheimers, so taking on these extra responsibilities in caring for both of them has been tough. Also, during all of this my daughter found our her husband had an affair. I felt my whole family, which is very close, was slipping away. My other daughter, who is a very faithful person, was even questioning her faith as why God would allow so much on us at one time. We’ve come a long way – mother-in-law and father-in-law are both back home with 2 full-time sitters, daughter and husband are seeing counselors and trying to work through this, and other daughter is getting her masters in Christian family and marriage counseling. This Thanksgiving, I’m so thankful that ALL my family will be at my house, together, for Thanksgiving as we praise our Lord and embrace and cherish every moment of this day.

  28. I am thankful for how God has grown and groomed me throughout this year … I have been faced with some incredibly difficult challenges and some daunting realities, but through it all, i have truly depended on Jesus. With each hurt, and each pain … with each trial and tribulation, I have found myself running back to Jesus with praise and speaking the Word over my life. Some days are harder than others, but I am amazed by how God has grown me! Afew years ago, if I were faced with the same circumstances, I would have reacted VERY differently, and regretted it later. I am still warring in prayer over some issues, but I feel the strength of the Lord, and I am grateful.

  29. Sandi Collins says:

I am thankful for my grandchildren and for my children. All of our children are healthy and none of them have had any trouble. Sure we have had our squabbles but we have all stayed together as one family and if one is hurting the other ones also hurt along with them. I love that about our family. The grandchildren are truly a gift from God and we all realize that.

  30. I am so thankful God has given me my wonderful family. We’ve been through a lot recently, topping it off with major surgery for me last week, but we all remain caring, supportive and Faithful through it all. Each day, we see God’s blessing in our lives-from the beautiful morning sunrise to the peaceful setting sun!
    We are so blessed.

  31. For God’s faithful provision, love and forgiveness- and also am learning how to be grateful in not so happy circumstances/parts of my life too- to saturate my mind with the knowledge that ‘this is God’s will for me and therefore is best’, despite of what I think.

  36. Bev McDowell says:

I have never left a comment on a blog, but here goes! I am thankful for a husband who is growing together with me in God’s love and grace. I am thankful (at times through a grumble at first) for a career that challenges my nerves and my faith every single day. You see, I work as a nurse for the elderly, loving them to death, but often pushed beyond my resources to care for them in a timely manner. Thankfully God continues to refine me through the crazy frenetic pace that is my calling. Most of all I am thankful for the fact that He stooped so low to choose me to be salt and light in the workplace.

  37. I am so thankful for my mother. She has given up her “life” for the past 2 1/2 years to live with my husband’s and I to help with our kids. It’s not easy but, we are muddling through.

  38. In the face of recent disappointments & illnesses in my family, I am reminded of God’s faithfulness, and of my own need for forgiveness. I am so thankful for the ministry of Proverbs 31 – to be able to read each day’s devotion is such a blessing for me! I am reminded daily of how much God loves me, and sees me where I am each day.
I pray that we all realize the abundant blessings from God in our lives, and we take the time to THANK HIM abundantly as well.

    1. Amy Carroll says:

Michelle, thank you! I’ll pass on your sweet encouragement to our whole team. It means the world!

Thankful for God’s keeping power. Living 10 minutes from the Ferguson unrest and yet feeling protected is nothing but God’s grace, love & mercy. Please continue to pray for our community. Be blessed one & all.

    1. Amy Carroll says:

Oh, goodness, Cathy. I’m definitely praying for your community–for healing and unity.

  40. I am thankful that my husband and I have been privileged to serve at our church as pastor and wife for 10 years (as of the Sunday after Thanksgiving) While ministry isn’t easy all the time, it’s so wonderfully worth it!

Also thankful for my family- we love big, and sometimes yell big, but we know we are together in this thing called life. We are committed to each other!

  41. Bing Boettner says:

I am thankful for the gift of Proverbs31.org and all of its writers who bring words of encouragement to weary souls like mine. God has used you all to remind us of His love and His Word. Thank you, Lord-to you all honor and praise are due!

    1. Amy Carroll says:

Bing, you’re precious! I’ll make sure to pass on your encouragement to our whole team. 🙂

  42. It’s funny how your Proverbs 31 message was about family and thankfulness. In the midst of preparing dishes for Thanksgiving, washing and packing clothes, and getting ready to visit out-of-town family, I have been reflecting back on previous years of holiday celebrations. And, just as you have shared, there are always situations that come up that can cause one to be not thankful. I have been touched lately about the reality of just how quickly my kids are growing up! So, I am truly thankful for them—-the things they teach me, the laughter they share, the funny jokes they play, the unconditional love they have for me, and even the times they drive me crazy! God has given them to me because He knew I needed them—-to soften my rough edges, to humble me, and to make me a woman who seeks after Him! So, today, and during this holiday season, I am thankful for my children!

  43. Donna Earl says:

I’m thankful for God’s continuing provision in the midst of struggles. My husband walked away from God about 5 yrs ago. We are unequally yoked at this time, but in the midst of the struggles of an unequally yoked marriage God has kept our marriage of 25 yrs going. I’m thankful he has helped me through others build my relationship with Jesus so I’m in turn able to help guide my children. I’m truly thankful for my family as well as my mom and dad and my sister and brother-in-law who have been with me and guided me through the struggles of walking the spiritual walk without my husband. Thank you for your devotion today. Happy Thanksgiving!

  48. I’m thankful for life itself. What a wonderful world we live in. We have freedom to worship our Lord and Savior any time we want. None of us are perfect but by the Grace of God we can love one another without hesitation. We need to keep our faith and move forward in to a positive relationship with not only God but each other. There’s always strength in numbers so let’s keep doing what is right in His eyes and stay focused on Him and truly be thankful for all things. Have a Blessed day in Jesus name, Amen.

  49. I’m thankful that my grown daughters love the Lord and are very close to each other and to my sister’s grown children who are also Christians. It gives me faith and hope that our little family of believers will grow and continue.

  50. Today, as I read your devotion, I was struck, once again, by how I need to grow in the area of praise and thanksgiving. At this moment, I am most thankful, that Jesus never gives up on me, He is a forgiving and loving God. I’m thankful also He shows me when I’m wrong and then strengthens me to get up and try, with Him working in/through me, again. What a faithful, loving God. I’m so glad He cares for me.

  51. Cristie giles says:

I am thankful that through out my struggles, God is faithful! He gives me rest during my struggle and shows me He is always in control. Sometimes in the middle of all the hard, something good comes along. That is always God telling you He is still with you.

  55. Jennifer Rutzen says:

I love the thoughts you shared today…you are right, when things are not going so well it is easy to overlook the many blessings we have all around us and just focus on our struggles. I am so grateful for the things God has protected us from – and the many wonderful people He has put into my life. I pray that my focus would be on the right things and I would leave the rest to Him!

  56. I am thankful that I have a family who also enjoys humor from life’s little bumps in the road:-) I am also thankful that we serve a forgiving God, who shows us mercy when we do not deserve it! Thank you Mrs. Carroll for reminding us of gratitude! By the way I am also thankful to have parents who threaten me as we went in to the homes of others for dinner, not to say a word and eat!!!

    1. Amy Carroll says:

LOL!!! I’m glad you liked the little story, Sabrina, about Mary Jane. Your last sentence cracked me up!

  57. I am thankful for God’s mercies and grace, which are new each day.
I’m also thankful for your post that showed up in my in-box today, as just yesterday I was praying to God about my spirit of being discontent in my life. Mine is more of an emotional thing than having a lack of. So thank you, I truly needed to hear this today. Happy Thanksgiving.

  58. I am thankful that God not only saved my soul but also saved my life through healing me of breast cancer three years ago. I am also thankful for all the blessings He brought to me by allowing me to experience this illness and healing. My Savior, my faith, and my family are more precious than ever. I am thankful that I am blessed to minister to others as they walk through the journey of cancer and can tell them firsthand of God’s love and faithfulness.

I am so thankful for my husband of 35 years +, who is also my best friend. I don’t always show my gratefulness for his Godliness and hard work and caring understanding heart. I’m so thankful that God brought us together.

  62. I am thankful for a husband that works bard all day and then comes home and plays hard with the kids every night!

  63. I am thankful for God’s restoration and healing of broken hearts. My mother went to be with the Lord in January of 2012 and the grief journey has been a difficult one for me and my family. But God has been so faithful and I have grown so much closer to Him as He has walked with me through it. The holidays can remind me a bit more intensely that I still have a hole in my heart, but with each one the wound is a little less raw. I can focus more on the blessings of her life and influence and rest and find peace in knowing that God knew the number of her days and she is with Him.

    1. Amy Carroll says:

I’m praying for you right now, Kathy, as you miss your mom during the holidays. Thank you for sharing God’s healing with us today.

  64. Robin Day says:

I am so thankful for so many things, but the one thing that stands out for me right now in this season of life is my beautiful Grandmother. I am thankful that she is still with us today and that we are able to gather with her for our day of Thanksgiving. I am thankful that she is such a beautiful display of Gods love and that she has prayed for each of us all of her life. What a blessing to have five generations gather this time of year.

  65. Thank you for the devotional on gratitude which resonated with me very much. I often get caught up in the struggles of life and asking God for things and forget about having a heart of thankfulness. Our family is going through most of the struggles you mentioned all in just one year and it has been difficult, but I am grateful for a husband who loves the Lord and works hard for our family and for my 7 year old son and his passion for life. And, most of all I am thankful for knowing God and his salvation and that I will spend eternity with him.

  66. I am thankful for my home and family as well as for my health and that my husband has a job. I have been without a job for over 1 1/2 year now but am blessed with family and a church family who have been very supportive both emotionally and financially. Most of all I am blessed to have God in my life and to be able to work in the children’s ministry of our church.

  80. I am so thankful for your post this morning about being grateful in all circumstances. I am facing another holiday season without my beloved husband and the loneliness and the depression I experience this time of the year is overwhelming. I find myself becoming bitter and angry that I am in this situation and my attitude is horrible. Praying this morning in gratitude, I felt the terrible pressure on my heart lift and I was filled with the peace and contentment that comes only from the Holy Spirit indwelling within me. Thank you for Encouragement for Today, you all are such a true, wonderful blessing. Happy Thanksgiving!

    1. Pam, Please know you are not alone. It is so difficult to understand God’s ways. Holidays have always been hard for me but I am blessed that today some wonderful paramedics came to a christmas store to care for my elderly mother who fainted. They were so kind and caring and treated her very special. This experience makes me realize that God is faithful. Please have heart and share your hurts with God. I have taken to writing prayers and Max Lucado has a book called “amen” that gives some ideas on prayer.
Please know you are loved by God. He created you and you are special! Please keep reaching out to girlfriends too. We need each other to share our earthly lives. I pray God will continue to bless you with his Holy Spirit. I am thankful for you. Blessings, Nancy

  81. I am first and foremost thankful for my salvation. Eighteen years ago my husband, then boyfriend, invited me to his church where I heard the clear gospel message, where I accepted God’s free gift of eternal life. Now 18 years and four sons later (all who’ve aaccepted Christ as their Savior) I’m thankful for His faithfulness. During the good times, and also the bad, God is good. During our times of plenty and during our times of not so plenty, God is good, and I’m ever so thankful for that. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

  82. Kara Hitchens says:

I am thankful I have a roof over my head, as many do not. I am thankful I have food on the table, as many do not. I am thankful I have peace – God given peace, as many do not. And I am thankful I have the freedom to read my Bible everyday, as many cannot.

His secretary will be eighty on her birthday, and she prays for my son every day, I am so thankful God brought their paths together!

    1. I am so Thankful for God’s love and kindness. It radiates in other people from time to time. God created our world for us to live in and share. He created the heavens and the earth. Nature is so beautiful. The seasons are changing with joy, and the heavens bring rain and clouds. The sun and the moon dance for us.
God shares His reason with us daily, when we listen through prayer and silence. Others are filled with the spirit of the Lord. We are all together on this earth for such a short time, trying to do good and live holy lives. We will be together in eternity with our God and our Creator forever. For all this I am grateful.
