Powerful Prayer in the New Year

Happy New Year, friends!

Do you love January 1st as much as I do? A fresh start feels so good… especially in the area of powerful prayer.

In today’s devotion, “How to Prioritize Prayer in Your Crazy Busy Life,” I shared about my 2018 word for the year, PRAY. There were so many lessons I learned, and I’m still learning.

In late November, I did an interview about listening to God through prayer with two of my gifted friends. Listen in to hear:

  • An fantastic acronym to use as a prayer tool (this one was new to me!)
  • A different kind of fast that just might change your prayer life forever

(Current subscribers, this is a re-run well worth watching again. Click here to watch on the website. If you missed it the first time, this is a great second chance!)

  13. Well…I was so bummed when I opened my devotional this morning and it was on prayer. But then I saw you were the author and was like ” Oh, Lord” because I listen to your podcast, ALL of them on Grit ‘n Grace girls and find them incredibly helpful. Plus VERY funny and entertaining. I just love you and Cherie. Anywho, I think God has been nudging me that my word of the year should be pray in 2019 and I don’t want it to be. First few years my word was a verb. and it always stretched me. So last year I was led to nest. I lOVED having a noun and since I LOVE to decorate and we were in a new house in a new town I was giddy about feathering our nest. Turns out nest can be a verb…like tables or bowls that nest into each other and it turned out God wanted to teach me how to nest into Him by fitting into His plans and figure out how to fit in to a new church and learn how to be a couple of empty nesters. All great stuff but still a verb word! Well, Amy Carroll, I guess God is using using you to confirm my word for 2019 and it is pray. I yield. ? PS I am so excited about your new book!

    1. Amy Carroll says:

Pamela, your comment made my day! Welcome to this wonderful/painful prayer journey. Glad we’re on it together!!

  14. Could you please tell me the name of the book that talked about soul fast?

  15. Cindy Herrell says:

    Hi Amy,
I loved your post about prayer. It hit home for me! What is the book you mentioned about reading from for a verse for each son daily?

I joined your blog community. I am super excited to start reading your posts each week.

Thank you for your work in Christ,
    Cindy

This reading really spoke deep into my heart. Thank you!

  17. I loved this discussion. Thank you for sharing so many helpful suggestions. It gave me some good ideas to move from praying from a list to learning to rely on the Holy Spirit. I had never heard of a soul fast, but I look forward to learning more about it. Thank you ladies for sharing! May God continue to bless each of you.

    1. Amy Carroll says:

I’m so glad it was helpful, Cheryl. Blessings to you!

  18. The devotional left me with chills – I just purchased a prayer journal with no idea how to fit it in my day. The concept is simple – four prompts that help keep my attention focused. I write in response to the prompts. I don’t know why I suddenly feel compelled to pray daily, but I will follow what God seems to be asking for. Your description of unfocused and mind wandering sounds like you live in my shoes! Your devotional confirms the way I am pulled to pray.

    1. Amy Carroll says:

Wow. God’s timing is perfect, and I’m so thankful He connected us today!

    2. What is name of your prayer journal with prompts

  19. Thank you for sharing so many wonderful tips regarding prayer and staying rooted in His word. Actually, for Christmas I received two beautiful calendars regarding the Psalms ? I enjoy reading the Proverbs 31 devotions and I was intrigued with your topic for the day. I had never heard the aspect of Soul Fast but I know this was something I was meant to hear? Thank you for your faithfulness !

    1. Amy Carroll says:

Thank YOU for the encouragement, Sandy!

  20. Really enjoyed the video this morning! I’m looking forward to hearing more from the Lord this year!

    1. Amy Carroll says:

Thanks for taking the time to listen this morning, Cheryl. I’m thankful God connected us today!

I just subscribed and am excited to follow you. I just watched a previous pod on How to hear God when we pray. One of your guest used an anachronim that was listed after you signed off but since it was a replay I was unable to get it. Could you send it to me please. It was the anachronim for worship. Thank you. Happy New Year! God bless.

    1. World
      Others
      Relationships
      Service
      Home
      Intercessory
      Personal

      1. I need a fresh approach to prayer – I’ve been using the same one for YEARS, and it has become stale. My favorite thing about this is that personal prayers will be last on the list. I struggle with selfishness and pride, and I want to become more “other” and “service” centered in 2019. Thanks for the gentle push towards more inspiring prayer time!

    2. Amy Carroll says:

Love that Cindy in our little community jumped in to help! I pray it’s helpful in your daily prayer time. <3

  24. I’ve subscribed, but got resent the Proverbs31 devotional, then when I clicked to look at the prayer resources, I got the same page as the first time, when I signed up to be part of your community. I’d be grateful if you could tell me how I can receive the last of prayer resources, as that’s a priority for me this year, Thanks for all you do to encourage women everywhere.

    1. It looks to me like those resources will be available January 10th. I think I saw that somewhere on the blog post.

And I think you have to confirm your subscription from an email that they will send you.

    2. Amy Carroll says:

Thanks so much for joining this little community, Julie! Cindy’s right. The list will be sent out on the 10th. I pray it’s a blessing to you!
