Powerful Prayer in the New Year
Happy New Year, friends!
Do you love January 1st as much as I do? A fresh start feels so good… especially in the area of powerful prayer.
In today’s devotion, “How to Prioritize Prayer in Your Crazy Busy Life,” I shared about my 2018 word for the year, PRAY. There were so many lessons I learned, and I’m still learning.
In late November, I did an interview about listening to God through prayer with two of my gifted friends. Listen in to hear:
- An fantastic acronym to use as a prayer tool (this one was new to me!)
- A different kind of fast that just might change your prayer life forever
(Current subscribers, this is a re-run well worth watching again. Click here to watch on the website. If you missed it the first time, this is a great second chance!)
I am interested in your prayer tools you mentioned in How to Prioritize Prayer in Your Busy Life. I was checking to see how to receive them.
Thank you😊.
Thanks for your interest in that resource, Brenda! You can access it here: https://amycarroll.org/wp-content/uploads/prayer-tools.pdf
Dear Amy,
Just listened to your study with Tammy & Felicia. Awesome. This is the first time I have listened to you through Proverbs 31. What a blessing!
Is is possible I can get the name of the books that Felicia mentioned on prayer? Would so appreciate it.
Thank you!
Peace & Blessings to you,
Janis
The book that Felecia mentioned is linked in the comments under the video. I love The Spirit-Led Heart by Suzie Eller! https://amzn.to/2GjmVE9
I am a little behind in my devotions bi just read your post about prioritizing prayer. Would it be possible to receive the details still?
HI Amy,
I thought I had registered correctly to receive your info on the prayer journal your mentioned in the devotional titled HOW TO PIRORITIZE PRAYER IN YOUR CRAZY BUSY LIFE. It was supposed to go out on January 10th but I haven’t received anything. Could you send to me again? [email protected]. Thank you!
Sent! 🙂
I am interested in the prayer tools you spoke of in your blog.

I just subscribed to your blog, but received a different a response on a different topic. How can I receive the one with all the prayer resources? Thank you! Blessings and peace.

Oh wow! Your encouragement blesses my nations-loving heart!
Our dear Amy, I had just done a little study in Psalms, then opened my email and found this beautiful study with you, Tammy, and Felicia on prayer. It has such depth and it matched what I had just studied and was thinking about as I opened and listened to your podcast. Please know you are a blessing and your hard work to remain steady and to always be growing is a wonderful example to us all.
Cookie, I’m rubbing your encouragement deep into my heart. I love you, and we need to schedule a post-Christmas walk!
Amy loved the Blog. What prayer journal are you using that you found on Instagram? I have not found one I really like yet. I still remember the weekend you spent at our ladies retreat so many years ago In Charleston, First Baptist Simpsonville.
Juditha

Well…I was so bummed when I opened my devotional this morning and it was on prayer. But then I saw you were the author and was like ” Oh, Lord” because I listen to your podcast, ALL of them on Grit ‘n Grace girls and find them incredibly helpful. Plus VERY funny and entertaining. I just love you and Cherie. Anywho, I think God has been nudging me that my word of the year should be pray in 2019 and I don’t want it to be. First few years my word was a verb. and it always stretched me. So last year I was led to nest. I lOVED having a noun and since I LOVE to decorate and we were in a new house in a new town I was giddy about feathering our nest. Turns out nest can be a verb…like tables or bowls that nest into each other and it turned out God wanted to teach me how to nest into Him by fitting into His plans and figure out how to fit in to a new church and learn how to be a couple of empty nesters. All great stuff but still a verb word! Well, Amy Carroll, I guess God is using using you to confirm my word for 2019 and it is pray. I yield. 😉 PS I am so excited about your new book!
Pamela, your comment made my day! Welcome to this wonderful/painful prayer journey. Glad we’re on it together!!
Could you please tell me the name of the book that talked about soul fast?
My friend recommended The 40 Day Soul Fast by Cindy Trimm https://amzn.to/2SExnIE (I haven’t read it, but I love the concept!)
Hi Amy,
I loved your post about prayer. It hit home for me! What is the book you mentioned about reading from for a verse for each son daily?
I joined your blog community. I am super excited to start reading your posts each week.
Thank you for your work in Christ,
Cindy

I loved this discussion. Thank you for sharing so many helpful suggestions. It gave me some good ideas to move from praying from a list to learning to rely on the Holy Spirit. I had never heard of a soul fast, but I look forward to learning more about it. Thank you ladies for sharing! May God continue to bless each of you.
I’m so glad it was helpful, Cheryl. Blessings to you!
The devotional left me with chills – I just purchased a prayer journal with no idea how to fit it in my day. The concept is simple – four prompts that help keep my attention focused. I write in response to the prompts. I don’t know why I suddenly feel compelled to pray daily, but I will follow what God seems to be asking for. Your description of unfocused and mind wandering sounds like you live in my shoes! Your devotional confirms the way I am pulled to pray.
Wow. God’s timing is perfect, and I’m so thankful He connected us today!
What is name of your prayer journal with prompts

Thank you for sharing so many wonderful tips regarding prayer and staying rooted in His word. Actually, for Christmas I received two beautiful calendars regarding the Psalms 🙂 I enjoy reading the Proverbs 31 devotions and I was intrigued with your topic for the day. I had never heard the aspect of Soul Fast but I know this was something I was meant to hear🙂 Thank you for your faithfulness !
Thank YOU for the encouragement, Sandy!
Really enjoyed the video this morning! I’m looking forward to hearing more from the Lord this year!
Thanks for taking the time to listen this morning, Cheryl. I’m thankful God connected us today!
Happy New Year to me! I’ve found Amy Carroll and she’s described me to a T……reforming perfectionist and people pleaser!
I’m just so excited to have read your P31 devotion for January 1, 2019, and then been led to your blog and oh so many resources!
Here’s to strengthening my prayer life and connections to God through His word !
Thank you!
Good. morning Amy
Thank you for your encouraging words and support. I look forward to prioritizing prayer
Have a Blessed New Year.
You too, Grace!
I just subscribed and am excited to follow you. I just watched a previous pod on How to hear God when we pray. One of your guest used an anachronim that was listed after you signed off but since it was a replay I was unable to get it. Could you send it to me please. It was the anachronim for worship. Thank you. Happy New Year! God bless.

I need a fresh approach to prayer – I’ve been using the same one for YEARS, and it has become stale. My favorite thing about this is that personal prayers will be last on the list. I struggle with selfishness and pride, and I want to become more “other” and “service” centered in 2019. Thanks for the gentle push towards more inspiring prayer time!
Love that Cindy in our little community jumped in to help! I pray it’s helpful in your daily prayer time. <3
I’ve subscribed, but got resent the Proverbs31 devotional, then when I clicked to look at the prayer resources, I got the same page as the first time, when I signed up to be part of your community. I’d be grateful if you could tell me how I can receive the last of prayer resources, as that’s a priority for me this year, Thanks for all you do to encourage women everywhere.
It looks to me like those resources will be available January 10th. I think I saw that somewhere on the blog post.
And I think you have to confirm your subscription from an email that they will send you.
Thanks so much for joining this little community, Julie! Cindy’s right. The list will be sent out on the 10th. I pray it’s a blessing to you!
